Terrible book written by a terrible man. Would recommend. It's a dumb fun little story.
This book was not my first foray into Dan Ryckert's style of craziness and stupidity, but it was definitely my favorite so far. His writing about video games and the persona that he has created on the Giant Bombcast are very apparent in Air Force Gator. The plot is hilarious, and the dialog and action scenes even more so. Ryckert is obviously influenced by 1980s action movies, and the novel reads like how I imagine a day in the life of a 1983 Arnold Schwarzenegger who actually does the things depicted in his movies. I'm sure that's what Ryckert was going for.
I am already at a bias with Dans game reviews, but I can honestly say that this book was entertaining. It was a break from the serious tones of other books and even everyday life. I cant say if there was true inspiration in this book or utterly and complete creativity. Taking everyday situations and making Gators do it. I laughed the whole way through. Maybe one day again I'll read it again.
Air Force Gator is a special kind of book. It's a book that shouldn't be as good as it is. It has the most stupid premise for a book I've ever heard, yet there's a charm to it. When I began the book I was laughing out loud at the absurdity of it, but by the end I was invested in Air Force Gator's story. I highly recommend this to anyone thinking about purchasing it.
I just started this book and am only 2 chapters in but I can tell that this will go down as one of the most important literary works in the last 500 years at least. Air Force Gator is absolutely a must read for everyone on the planet. Look out terrorists, Air Force Gator is coming for you!
Air Force Gator is not for the faint of heart or those who enjoy fine literature. This is a ridiculous book, but I say that in the best way possible. I mean the book is about an Alligator in the Air Force. If you are looking for Kafka please go actually read Kafka. This is Dan Ryckert a man of impossible imagination. He does not write he merely thinks onto the page. He has come up with maybe the most fun novel I have read in years. It is crass, imaginative, and a whole helluva lot of fun. It has action and feelings. The story is of revenge and it pays off, big time. This is a fun book, and I recommend that if you enjoy crazy things, please read it.
I'd first heard of this book and though o gods, how did Dan write a book. Then I thought over it over and wanted to buy it just to see how nuts it would be. Thankfully before I was able to buy it due to money issues it went up for a limited time free kindle version, honestly tho I still plan to buy this when I have the money , and it's sequel. The book was amazingly hilarious and well worth the read , specially considering how short it is. Great job to Dan Ryckert for making an amazingly great stupid book.
